It was a fantastic 5 days of training at Penrith and so worthwhile to feed off the vast knowledge of aviation. I’m sure we could have all spent another 5 days just picking the instructor’s brain for more information. The team from FPV Australia are very professional and always happy to answer any questions I have. I believe my time on this course has given me a rock solid grounding in the aviation industry.
Instructor was awesome and knew more than we could of hoped to learn over the 5 days. The course was awesome.
Daniel Dunstone - MAPOLOGY
My instructor was very knowledgeable and gave some great insights into the Commercial UAV industry. His informal style and good humour made the course really enjoyable. I’d highly recommend the course to others interested.
I would highly recommend your training course to any one and myself I will be continuing my training with you in the future thanks Again.
I’ve done a lot of training over the years and this was hands down the best I’ve done.
I finished feeling very confident around the UAV environment and that my money was well spent.

I just wanted to thank FPV Australia and Roger for the amazing RPAS training. Helped me so much.
Darrell Burkey - PROUAV
I found the RPAS training that you provided very relevant and useful. I feel much more confident now that I understand the technical details required to operate RPAS safely and professionally. The delivery of the course was just excellent. I really appreciated having the time to discuss various aspects of operations with the other students and your patience in answering every question that students had. It’s obvious that you have worked hard to provide a professional service and I really appreciate it. The RPAS course was a great investment for my business and I’m looking forward to attending any further courses that you may provide.
I thoroughly enjoyed my participation in FPV Australia’s first RPAS license course.
The five day program was very well organized with a clear structure while also allowing time for discussion and war stories. This meant real world situations could be workshopped amongst the group and instructor, adding to the written course materials.
The course materials were well produced and the instructor was friendly and engaging but most importantly, clearly passionate about flying (safely).
I would (and have) highly recommend this course to anyone looking to take their flying to the next level.
RobbiNewman - Light&Vision
My associate and I just completed the RPAS Certificate course with FPV Australia in Canberra and it was simply a sensational and enjoyable experience.
The attitude, the instructor and the course structure were nothing short of fun and superbly executed to make the learning experience fun and practical.
We had previously wasted time and money going the PPL route and were simply destroyed by the complexity and irrelevance of everything we were presented with.
Do not go the PPL route at all unless you want to fly fixed wing as well., and 3 day courses, FORGET IT.
The RPAS course is totally geared to UAV and multirotor craft. You are guaranteed to pass because everything is totally explained in layman’s terms and nothing is left to doubt. Both practical and theory are broken up into small exciting units, perfect for ordinary brains.
I am a pro photographer and this was exactly what I was looking for and what the industry needs.
Having recently decided to change occupations and become a Commercial UAS Operator I was unsure of what course of action to take. Luckily I found Mongrel Gear and since then haven’t looked back.
The course began with theory for the first half of the day with John providing clear and concise information and answering all questions raised. The course work provided is very well set out and of great use to you after the course. After a great lunch we then moved onto the practical side of the training with John demonstrating and providing a lot of very useful techniques and knowledge for Multi-rotor platforms.
Through this course I have gained much greater understanding of the Platforms, electrical components, flight controller and receiver programming , batteries, operating procedures and most importantly SAFETY. The crew at Mongrel Gear was also able to assist with many other queries about FPV platforms.
By the end of the day I felt much more comfortable and competent with the safe operation and maintenance of my platform. All in all this is an extremely worthwhile course for any enthusiast or person looking to further their RPAS Certification. This has given me the ground work to move from being an enthusiast to a professional.
I recently attended the RPAS training course delivered by John Fleming from Mongrel Gear Australia.
Having participated in several technical and non-technical courses over the years I found the RPAS training to be well structured and delivered to a high standard. John tailors the training to ensure inclusion at all levels and instils a sense of inquisitiveness and humour into his training.
The course notes are excellent and fully support both the practical and theoretical training. Included were visual aids which were used to good effect. Detailed explanations were well presented and questions were answered thoughtfully and thoroughly.
Reading manuals for hours on end can be a daunting and a frustrating task and this course has improved the learning process by demonstrating the basic tasks and programming required.
The training is very informative and just some of the outcomes are:
• tips and tricks for maintenance and set up
• flight theory
• safety and risk awareness
• flight training suggestions (in course handbook)
• pre and post flight safety checks
• Battery safety
As a result of completing this training course I feel more confident in my ability to maintain and operate a remote controlled aircraft.

I have been a customer of Mongrel Gear and FPV Australia for quite some time now, and all I can say is I am glad I found them when I did. You will not get better customer service from a dedicated organisation like these guys. Not only do they care about their customers, but they make sure they have the best people onboard to service their clients. Their RPAS course is probably the best I know of, with probably the best instructor in the country. If you are looking for new RPAS copters and training, you would be crazy to look anywhere else.
Jo Hancox - QUESTACON
Just finished the RPAS course in Canberra. It was one of the best organised courses I have ever done. John and his instructors are very knowledgeable, and the content is covered in an easy to understand
